Most of the trout stocking in St. Lawrence County this spring will be in May, but it starts in April.
More that 50,000 brook, rainbow and brown trout, most of them yearlings about eight inches long, will be dropped into brooks, rivers and lakes throughout the county, from the Bog River and Star Lake in the south to Stockholm and Parishville farther north.
The stocking helps keep trout populations strong for sport anglers and the general ecosystem.
More than 5,000 brook trout will go into Cranberry Lake in Clifton and more than 9,000 rainbow and brook trout are destined for the St. Regis River in Lawrence and Hopkinton.
