COLTON -- Organizers are seeking community support for the production of Sunday Rock, the folk musical about the town's famous rock.

The producers of Sunday Rock: The Folk Musical are ramping up fund raising efforts for shows this summer as well as legacy projects with participating organizations—including the Colton Historical Society, Colton-Pierrepont Central School and Grasse River Players.

Bill Riehl, Executive Producer of the show and son of its creator Evelyn Riehl, explains contributions are needed to cover direct expenses of the show; and if enough is raised the producers plan to support longer lasting collaborative efforts among the organizations.

He says “the production this year is magical in that it celebrates a number of anniversaries. 2012 marks the 20th anniversary since the show’s last production in 1992.

This year also is the 100th anniversary of the show’s setting in 1912 when woods- and river-related activities were major factors of life before dams were built on the Raquette River. And 2012 is the 1st anniversary of its symbol Sunday Rock being named to the National Register of Historic Places. Sunday Rock marked separation of the wilderness from civilization; and my mother’s musical tells about the clash between the cultures of river drivers and civilized villagers north and south of the Rock.”

Ruth McWilliams, as fund raising coordinator, with help from others on the production team is reaching out to potential patrons after initial contributions were received from members and friends of the Riehl Family as well as some local organizations.

Ms. McWilliams says “they are seeking small and large contributions from individuals, organizations and businesses—including $20 revival gifts, $50 and $100 ads for the show program as well as greater amounts from major sponsors who will be recognized before, during and after the show. Last week we were very pleased to have North Country Savings Bank become a major sponsor.”

Contributions to the Colton Historical Society for the production are tax deductible; and can be sent to the Colton Historical Society, c/o Mary Jane Watson, P.O. Box 387, South Colton, New York 13687. All contributors will receive a receipt for tax purposes. Contributions received by June 20 will be recognized in the show program.

The show will be presented four times on the Colton-Pierrepont Central School stage from July 18-22.
