CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District is selling triploid grass carp.
The fish eat a wide variety of aquatic plants and can eat their weight in vegetation every day, commonly reaching weights in excess of 25 pounds. They are viewed as a great alternative to mechanical or chemical pond weed control.
State Department of Environmental Conservation stocking permits are required before fish can be ordered.
A fully completed permit application should be submitted to the DEC by May 4 to meet a tentative June 1 delivery date.
