POTSDAM -- The Orchestra of Northern New York, the North Country’s professional symphony orchestra, is now accepting applications for the 11th Annual James and Katherine Andrews Young Artist Instrumental Competition.
The competition will take place on Saturday, Jan. 28 at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.
All high school students residing in northern and central New York are invited to participate.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three soloists, with the first place winner receiving $500 and the opportunity to perform with the Orchestra during its March 2017 concert.
The Young Artist Instrumental Competition was established in 2007 to honor the Andrews, who were both supporters of young people involved in activities, especially those involving music.
ONNY is one of only several professional orchestras that offer both cash prizes and the opportunity to perform the solo with the orchestra.
Rules, approved repertoire and the application can be found at www.ONNY.org.
Applications must be postmarked by Jan. 14 to be eligible. Info: onnybusiness@gmail.com or 267- 3251.
