CANTON – St. Lawrence County Clerk Mary Lou Rupp is making available an “opt-out” form for pistol permit holders who do not wish to have their information made public through a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request.
The form can be found at www.troopers.ny.gov/optoutfoil or you may visit the county website at www.stlawco.org. Under County Clerk choose the “NY SAFE Act” tab for information and a link for the form.
The forms will also be available at the county clerk’s office and all St. Lawrence County DMV offices.
Once completed they should be sent to the clerk’s office at 48 Court St, Canton, NY 13617.
People may call the clerk’s office at 379-2237 with any questions.
The New York State Sheriff’s Association backed a state provision that would allow pistol permit holders to ask for their information to be withheld from FOIL requests for names and addresses of pistol permit holders.
