Most bars and convenience stores refused to sell alcohol to a 19-year-old sent by state police Saturday to determine whether businesses are complying with laws forbidding the sale of alcohol to minors.
Convenience stores and bars were checked in Canton, Russell, Pierrepont, Colton, and Potsdam. Potsdam Police Department joined the initiative in the Village where three additional bars were entered in attempt to have the operative served, police said.
In total, nine bars and four retail establishments were checked with the majority of the businesses refusing the sale, police said.
However, two Colton men were charged with selling alcohol to a minor.
Potsdam police cited Joseph A. Trimm, 28, at 10:30 p.m. at The Lounge, in the Big Lots shopping plaza on Outer Market Street.
Rodney R. Regan, 52, South Colton, was cited by state police on the same charge at 9:40 p.m. at the Red Pine Pub, 3906 NYS Hwy. 56, Colton.
