MASSENA -- A new patrolman will join Massena Police and a current patrolman will be promoted to contingent permanent patrol sergeant.
At its meeting Tuesday, the board voted to hire Nicholas Belile to fill Inv. Joe Brown’s position, who recently retired.
Acting Chief Adam Love said Belile completed the Sullivan Police Academy in Canton two years ago and works part-time for Norfolk Police Department, so there’s no training cost.
“He comes ready to work immediately, which is needed,” Love said.
Ptl. Ian Vanier is promoted to contingent permanent patrol sergeant, the board decided.
Originally on the agenda was a second full-time officer, Travis LaBar. Mayor Tim Currier pulled it at the start of the meeting. He said LaBar is considering a job elsewhere.
