POTSDAM -- Thirty active members and alumni from Omega Delta Phi Sorority at SUNY Potsdam raised $5,270 during the 10th Relay for Life in Maxcy Field house.

In its tenth year on the SUNY Campus, this year’s relay raised $55,281.01 with 48 teams participating. Greek organizations made a significant contribution of $16,745.27 as a part of the overall effort.

Team Omega, under the leadership of active member Yalisha Colon, exceeded their original goal of $3,000 and earned their first Gold Team award in the three years they have participated in the Relay.

Participation and support of the relay is a highly personal event for many.

“The thought of raising money for a good cause has always appealed to me,” Colon said. “Relay is important to me because people who I am so close with have been affected by cancer whether it be their friends or their family. It’s hard to see people hurt because of family battling cancer or who have lost the fight. My goal was to make a difference and I helped make a $5,000 difference.”

Team Omega has enjoyed strong alumni participation with meeting goals and with those traveling to Potsdam to walk in support of the designated philanthropy of the sorority.

“Not only do I participate in Relay for my family and friends but also for those fighting and for those who sadly lost their fight too soon,” Colon said.
