Ogdensburg library adds learning computers for kids

OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Public Library now has learning computers that are loaded with upwards of 70 educational software programs for ages 2 to 12.

In a prepared statement, the library calls its newly acquired Early Literacy Station and the After School Edge programs "a safe, standalone computer not connected to the internet that is age-appropriate, engaging, and academically relevant for children."

The library says it is designed to help students with subjects and activities related to their homework topics.

It covers subjects such as reading, language arts, math, science, STEM, social studies, writing, graphic arts, typing, music, and more. he content is correlated to Common Core standards. They also feature a host of administrative controls including timed sessions and usage tracking, the library said.

The computers come from AWE Digital Solutions. Funding for this project was provided by a Northern New York Library Network Technology Service Improvement Grant.

Ogdensburg Public Library’s hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library’s website is http://www.ogdensburgpubliclibrary.org.
