OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg Free Academy sophomore Jordan J. Snyder is one of two high school students in New York state who will compete in the 2016 Moose International Youth Awareness Congress in Williamsburg, Va. from April 28 to May 2.
Youth Awareness is a community service program sponsored by Moose International that prepares high school students to become role models and effective speakers. The goal being educating preschool and elementary school aged children on a variety of topics, including chemical abuse, child abuse, bullying, peer pressure, healthy habits and nutrition.
The participants create and present three "Kids Talks" to groups of children 4 to 9 years old in their area, and follow up with a detailed report.
From those completed presentations, about 60 students across the United States and Canada are selected to attend the International Convention. At the conclusion, five students will be selected by the attendees to receive scholarships up to $12,000.
Last year, Snyder was the first student ever to represent Ogdensburg. This is her second year winning the state competition. Her presentation was on positive body image and was presented to Ogdensburg area Girl Scouts, Daisies, Brownies and to members of the Ogdensburg After School Program.
