OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg Dobisky Visitor Center will go another season without a vendor, despite interest from a Heuvelton man who submitted a proposal to sell food there.

Councilors recently approved a deal to let Richard P. Wright of Heuvelton operate concessions at the visitor center.

Wright had submitted a proposal in May and city council worked quickly to approve the agreement, however Wright did not follow through after his plan was approved.

Mayor Wayne Ashley was excited about having a vendor offering food at the city’s visitor center as the city-owned kitchen has remained vacant since 2013.

According to an update from City Manager Sarah Purdy, Ogdensburg Recreation Director Matthew Curatolo last spoke with Wright on June 28.

At that time Curatolo said he was not aware of any issues and expected Wright to begin offering food in July. However, since that time the city has not been able to reach Wright.

“Mr. Wright has not signed the Commercial Lease Agreement. Although I have been authorized to sign it, based on the absence of timely follow through I will not do so and instead will pull together information for Council’s August meeting on what other options the City may have for the use of the space and equipment,” Purdy said in a report to the council.
