OGDENSBURG – Crews from J.E. Sheehan Contracting Corporation of Potsdam were busy Wednesday now that work has resumed on the city’s $7.5 million road and sewer reconstruction project.
Paterson Street between LaFayette and Greene Street is closed. Northbound Paterson Street traffic is being detoured west on LaFayette Street to Hamilton Street and then east on Greene Street back to Paterson Street.
Southbound traffic is being detoured in the reverse.
Construction of this section is expected to take approximately two months. During this time residents will have access to their driveways however, they are advised to give themselves extra time when traveling as there may be delays associated with construction.
Additionally, there will be no street side parking, Monday to Friday, during normal working hours, which are typically between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 pm.
The reconstruction of 1.1 miles of Paterson Street runs from the city limits to the Port of Ogdensburg. If began last year and resumed in recent weeks.
The project is both federally and locally funded and entails full depth pavement reconstruction, new sidewalks and curbing, and widens the road by about two feet.
In addition, a new storm drainage system will allow for the existing combined sewer system to be separated, the release says.
The city hopes the project will revitalize the central corridor within the city and encourage neighborhood improvements and redevelopment.
New Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible sidewalks will be constructed throughout the project, in addition to new pedestrian signals at the Paterson Street and Ford Street intersection.
Barton & Loguidice, headquartered in Syracuse is the project engineer and will oversee the construction of this project.
The project development has been coordinated with NYSDOT Region 7 Planning & Program Development, and is Federally-Aided through SAFETEA-LU Coordinated Border Infrastructure Program funds. The City of Ogdensburg is contributing roughly $1 million toward the project.
