OGDENSBURG – An Ogdensburg Free Academy student has been nominated as Reality Check of New York State Youth Advocate of the year.
Shauna Rickett, a senior at OFA, will travel to Albany next Wednesday for the award ceremony.
Rickett is a longtime St. Lawrence Reality Check member and has been a youth advocate for tobacco control for years.
She was nominated for her “efforts of public education, peer-to-peer training and outreach to policymakers.”
“The work she has done is only the beginning as she has motivated many other young people to join in the effort and her recognition in Albany is well deserved,” St. Lawrence Reality Check Coordinator Alexa Stowe said in an issued statement.
Rickett will user her time in Albany to meet with Senators and Assembly members regarding tobacco issues in St. Lawrence County.
