OGDENSBURG -- Dianne Drayse-Alonso, a secondary art teacher at Ogdensburg Free Academy, was recently selected as a recipient of the Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award by the State of New York.
The award honors outstanding individuals who “exemplify the highest standards of teaching and work to foster creativity, instill a love of learning, and inspire independent thinking and student initiative,” a description of the award says.
As part of the award, Drayse-Alonso will receive $5,000 to use for professional development activities of her choice, including coursework to enhance expertise, attendance at a state or national education conference, or enrollment in a summer institute or certification program.
"I wouldn't be here if it weren't for a very, very supportive administration who really lets us do what we can do," Drayse-Alonso said.
"I also wouldn't be here without wonderful colleagues. I'm really looking forward to going out there and finding some great opportunities for our team."
A congratulatory letter from Gov. Andrew Cuomo also invited Drayse-Alonso to share her insights and knowledge with university, workforce and policy leaders around the State throughout the year.
