OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg Mayor Wayne Ashley ran his first meeting Monday joined by two new city councilors.
Retired pipefitter Timothy Davis, a Democrat, who was involved in the Kiwanis organization and has coached little league baseball in the past, and Republican social studies teacher David Price also attended their first meetings as councilors.
The new councilors filled vacancies left by former mayor William Nelson and councilor William Hosmer.
Sarah Purdy, city manager, also joined the meeting in her new position as the city’s top administrator. Purdy is the former Yates County administrator.
At the meeting, the Republican mayor nominated Republican Michael Morley as deputy mayor.
The nomination was approved. However, Democrats Jennifer Stevenson and Davis voted against the nomination.
Mayor Ashley said Morley is the senior member of the city council and served well as deputy mayor for many years.
Morley accepted the designation.
The council also appointed councilors Michael Morley, Dan Skamperle and Jennifer Stevenson to the Executive Compensation Committee. The committee reviews salaries of city employees to see if they are in line with other municipalities, according to Ashley.
