Ogdensburg to spend $128,000 for geomembrane at water treatment plant

OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg has approved a $128,465 contract to install a geo-membrane at the water treatment plant following direction from the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

The contract was awarded to Frank J. Danko Construction Corporation. Environmental Conservation is requiring the city to repair a leaking surface on the water storage vault at the plant to prevent potential contamination.

The city solicited bids and engineers from Tisdel Associates recommended awarding the contract to Frank J. Danko Construction Corporation, which was the low bidder.

Department of Public Works Director Scott Thornhill said there was not contamination to the water at this time and the measure is strictly preventative.

Thornhill explained the geomembrane is a rubber lining that protects the system from infiltration. The membrane is covered with topsoil.

All present members of the city council approved the resolution. Deputy Mayor Michael Morley was excused from the meeting due to an illness.
