OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg City School District Board of Education approved several sports merger requests from Morristown Central School for the upcoming spring season at Monday's meeting.

Mergers approved include girls varsity lacrosse, girls varsity track, boys varsity track and boys modified lacrosse.

All members present voted in favor of the mergers. Board Vice President Michael Myers and Board Member James King were not present at the meeting.

A merger request from Lisbon Central School for the upcoming boys modified lacrosse season was tabled by the board due to an incomplete application. Lisbon anticipates five student athletes will participate in boys modified lacrosse. The board will likely revisit the request once a proper application is submitted by Lisbon.

The upcoming spring sports season at Ogdensburg Free Academy will also include mergers with Heuvelton Central School for all levels of boys and girls track and boys varsity and modified lacrosse, which were approved at a regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

After much discussion during fall meetings, the board approved a revised sports merger policy, notably including the criteria that "If a merger, in a particular sport, is requested by more than one school it shall be the practice of the district that all school's requests will be honored. If the number of athletes from the school exceeds an acceptable limit, all requests will be denied."
