OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg’s sales tax receipts for August were up compared to August 2016.
Last year the city received $276,155 in August. This year the city received $285,869, about $9,000 more. For the year the city’s sales tax revenue is up by $115,978. In August 201 the city had raised a total of $1.96 million. This year the city has raised about $2.1 million.
This is good news for the city, which budgeted about $200,000 less in revenues than the previous year.
A report from City Comptroller Tim Johnson shows that health insurance expenses for August were down by $273,758, compared to last year, however he noted that this did not include prescription expenses.
Johnson said he expected those will be added in a future month and will negate some of the savings. Year-o-date health insurance expenses are down by $332,336 or 82.91 percent of last year. But Johnson warned that health insurance expenses are volatile making them hard to predict.
