OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg agreed to rezone a property owned by Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center to help facilitate a sale Monday.

The .52 acre property is located at 503 Mansion Avenue and is bound by Spring Street and Albany Avenue.

The vote was preceded by a public hearing in which former Mayor William D. Nelson, who is employed by the hospital spoke in favor of the rezone. No one spoke out against the rezone.

Nelson pointed out that the property had been mistakenly placed in the Adaptive Reuse District because it had been incorrectly labeled as religious use, when in fact it was not.

The hospital requested the city return the property to its previous designation as moderate density residential use.

Nelson pointed at the property sale was dependent on the zoning change. He said the new owners would be bringing the property back on to the tax rolls.

The council also agreed Monday to auction off vacant lots at 729-737 State Street with a minimum bid starting at $3,750. That auction will be held

All present board members voted in favor of the rezoning and the Lafayette Street property sale. Councilor David Price was excused from the meeting as he was recovering from a medical issue in Syracuse.
