OGDENSBURG -- A $7,030.93 increase to the ongoing lighting replacement project contract taking place in the Edgar A. Newell II Memorial Golden Dome was approved by the Ogdensburg City School District Board of Education at Tuesday's meeting.
Board Vice President Michael Myers, who cast the lone vote opposing the increase, expressed his disagreement with the general functionality and cost of the situation to the board and administration.
"It still just amazes that we had a light switch inside a boys room closet for a hundred years that we had to go and turn on in order to turn the lights on in the dome and it's going to cost seven grand to move that switch," Myers said.
The approved increase raises the total contract price from $198,880 to $205,910.93.
Bernier, Carr & Associates, Watertown, is listed as the project engineer, while Collins-Hammond, Ogdensburg, is the electrical contractor.
The lighting replacement project is a component of Phase 6 the school district's Capital Improvements Project, which also includes other upgrades to the lighting and temperature control improvements of the Golden Dome.
An estimated project budget of $797,347 for Phase 6 was approved by the board at a meeting on Aug. 22, 2016.
