OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge was closed for some time last night following a report that a person had jumped off the bridge into the St. Lawrence River.
U.S. Customs officials confirmed the report, but said the incident took place on the Canadian side of the bridge.
Attempts to contact Canadian police officials have been unsuccessful.
According to news reports from CTV News Ottawa, a 25-year old Canadian man is missing after having jumped into the river off the bridge.
Officials on the U.S. side said the bridge was closed temporarily but they are not involved in the investigation or search for a person.
Witnesses who live near the water reported seeing many emergency boats around the center of the bridge around 7:15 p.m.
The bridge was reopened around 9 p.m. last night after having been closed for 2-3 hours, officials said.
Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Executive Director Wade Davis wished to thank law enforcement officials on both sides of the border for their quick response.
