OGDENSBURG  -- Ogdensburg police rammed a vehicle to end a high speed chase early Saturday morning after a local man blew through a residential area at 60 mph ignoring 27 stops signs along the way.

Sgt Matthew Erwin attempted to stop Guimond, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Maxima, for speeding.

Guimond refused to stop, and police say he led officers on a pursuit that covered over 60 blocks throughout the west end of the city.

Guimond operated in speeds in excess of 60 MPH through residential neighborhoods, making no attempt to stop for 27 stop signs, "putting the other drivers and the public in significant danger," police sahid.

He

nearly struck two separate Ogdensburg City Police vehicles that were responding to assist, according to investigators

"Due to the recklessness of his operation, and disregard for personal injury or death to the public resulting from his actions, a police vehicle was used to strike and stop Guimond’s vehicle, where he was then taken into custody," police said.

There were no injuries.

Other officers assisting in the pursuit were Sgt. Scott Reed, Ptl. Danielle Harte, Ptl. Joshua Vine, and Ptl. Michael Durham.

Guimond was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment second (both class “A” misdemeanors), driving while intoxicated, reckless driving (both unclassified misdemeanors), and unlawful possession of marihuana, a violation.

He was additionally charged with several traffic violations to include two counts of speed in zone, no seatbelt, failure to comply, and 27 counts of failure to stop for a stop sign. Guimond was arraigned by the City Court Justice Gary Alford and released under supervision of the St. Lawrence County Probation Department.
