OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg City Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. to make changes and consider adopting the 2017 budget.
Councilors tabled action on the budget Dec. 5 after proposing several changes with hopes of minimizing the tax rate hike.
Ogdensburg councilors amended the preliminary budget Nov. 28 to a new plan that would raise property taxes by $3.58 from $17.36 to $20.94 per $1,000 of assessed value.
At the request of city councilors, City Manager Sarah Purdy provided a variety or options for trimming the tax levy.
Councilors discussed potential changes for hours at the Dec. 5, meeting but were unable to get the tax rate hike to a level they could agree on.
Councilors are likely to adopt the budget Monday as the deadline for adoption is Dec. 20, but the council could choose to hold a special meeting closer to the deadline if necessary.
The city council is also expected to act on a proposal that would outsource hauling and disposal of sludge to Casella Waste Management. That proposal was also tabled at the Dec. 5 meeting.
