OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg will pay the Development Authority of the North Country an additional $80,000 to oversee various aspects of the upcoming Wastewater System Improvement Project.

This spending is on top of $100,000 the city will pay to DANC for providing the purchase and implementation of Supervisory Control and Data Analysis system and five year contract with DANC that will cost the city about $125,000 in 2017 and scale up to $140,000 in 2020.

The five-year contract was approved in March 2016 for management services at the plant.

This $80,000 contract, approved Monday by city council, will contract with DANC for “general administrative and technical support services” for the $39 million WWTP project.

DANC will be coordinating with funding agencies, consulting the engineer, and prepare and submit disbursement requests a long with other services.

Councilor Dan Skamperle likened the work to that of a “Clerk of the Works” and questioned why Department of Public Works Director Scott Thornhill couldn’t perform the duties.

City Manager Sarah Purdy and Thornhill both said that due to the complexities relating to this particular project DANC services would be valuable for the city.

Council voted 6-0 in favor of the spending. Deputy Mayor Michael Morley was not present.
