OGDENSBURG – Two people from Ogdensburg have been accused of welfare fraud.
Leo T. Compo, 27, and Nicole L. Durham, 26, both of 588 Lovejoy Rd., were charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing after an investigation by the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services Investigations Unit turned up evidence that the pair had filed for and received $2,136.53 in public assistance and Food Stamps that they were not entitled to.
Investigators said the pair filed forged and false documents with Social Services between Dec. 8, 2010 and Aril 30, 2011.
Compo and Durham were arrested by the county Sheriff’s Office and brought before Justice Chris Curley in Village of Canton Court.
Compo was sent to the county jail on no bail, and Durham was released to the supervision of the Probation Department to appear in court later.
