OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg approved a request to hold the Light Up the Night Santa Parade in November.
The parade will be held Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. beginning at the Ogdensburg Dobisky Community Center. The request also sought permission to allow children to visit with Santa inside the Dobisky center following the parade.
Ogdensburg Mayor Wayne Ashley said he was pleased to see the success of the parade and commented that what had started out a small event has grown tremendously over the past few years.
City councilors approved the request in a 5-0 vote. Deputy Mayor Michael Morley and councilor Jennifer Stevenson were not present.
The parade typically includes a variety of floats from businesses and organizations as well as vehicles from the fire department and police agencies. It also provides children with an opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa Claus.
The Ogdensburg Greenbelt area is also traditionally decked out in holiday decorations and lights. The parade draws hundreds of people to the city.
Sponsored by the Lions clubs of Ogdensburg and Lisbon, the parade was designed to highlight local charities such as Toys for Tots, Salvation Army, St. Lawrence County SPCA, Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center, and PJs for Xmas.
