OGDENSBURG -- City native Matt Conger has fished in every St. Lawrence International Junior Carp tournament since 2003. This year, the seminary student is the Grand Marshal of the event for kids age 11 to 18.
The son of Patty and Steve Conger of Ogdensburg, he is a 2011 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy and is studying for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia. He’s taking a break from his summer job at Camp Guggenheim in Saranac Lake – operated by the Diocese of Ogdensburg – to assume the Grand Marshal duties for the tournament.
The event, he says in a news release, helps “great friendships form on the riverbank. You’re fishing together day and night.” Conger began fishing with his father and participated in the Junior Carp tournament until he “aged out” after age 18. He has volunteered since then during the three-day event, which is hosted by the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.
