OGDENBSURG – Ogdensburg Free Academy graduate and Vietnam War veteran Carl Jesmer remembers a USO visit from Bob Hope in 1966.
“In 1966 Mr. Bob Hope's show was visiting troops in Vietnam at Ton Son Nhut Air Force Base,” Jesmer said. “At that time I had been hospitalized from a work related injury to the hospital that Mr. Hope was visiting injured troops at. He came to my bed and signed my cast.”
Jesmer said Hope’s show also included acts from 1966 Miss World (Miss India), The Kim Sisters of Korea, Anita Bryant, Phyllis Diller and a visit from Gen. Westmoreland who shook hands with soldiers and veterans.
Jesmer is a 1958 Ogdensburg Free Academy graduate. He is a retired US Air Force member. He has a total of 42 years in federal service with part of the time accumulated as a civil servant.
