OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg Mayor Wayne Ashley has proclaimed Nov. 25 through Dec. 10 as the “Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women Campaign.”

The initiative is part of a global campaign that aims to create awareness of violence against women and girls locally, nationally and internationally.

“These 16 Days of Activism, begin with Nov. 25, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and ends with Dec. 10, the International Human Rights Day. The message is that Women’s Rights are Human Rights,” Zonta President Kim Snyder said in a released statement. “During the 16 days, more than 30,000 Zontians in 66 countries around the globe will stage events to raise awareness of this issue through local service and advocacy initiatives.”

Snyder said orange is the official color of the campaign and encouraged members of the community to support women across the world by lighting up homes and businesses orange during Nov 25 to Dec 10. City Hall will also be supporting our efforts by lighting up their windows with orange bulbs.

“For our mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces, and all the women in our lives we will not rest until violence against women has ended,” Snyder said.
