OGDENSBURG – At the request of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mayor Wayne Ashley proclaimed Sept. 17-23 as “Constitution Week.”
Mayor Ashley thanked the organization for their dedication promoting the area and the nation’s history, and gladly signed the proclamation. He and his fellow councilors agreed that there should be more education on what is the foundation of American government and law.
The Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children, according to the organization’s website.
Ogdensburg’s chapter was formed in 1896, according to Sally Hartman, the Ogdensburg chapter regent, who presented the proclamation to the mayor. Several other members of the DAR were also in attendance.
