OGDENSBURG – An Ogdensburg teen was arrested for possessing stolen firearms Tuesday afternoon.

[img_assist|nid=191325|title=Oshier|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=150|height=189]Jarrod A. Oshier, 18, of 414 Main St. was charged following an investigation by city police of a burglary which occurred Monday, Feb. 6, at about 11:20 p.m. at a home on the 900 block of Mansion Ave.

A resident there reported that two handguns had been stolen - a Ruger semi-automatic pistol and a .22 caliber revolver, along with ammunition for both.

On late Tuesday afternoon, police stopped a vehicle containing Oshier, who was a suspect, and he was brought in for questioning.

The stolen handguns were not found on him, who was uncooperative with investigators, said police. However, based on evidence, Oshier was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, also a class E felony.

Though Oshier was in custody, the stolen handguns remained at large. Investigators worked through the night, tracking leads and conducting interviews, ultimately leading to their recovery of the stolen handguns at a residence in the city where Oshier had stashed them, police allege.

Oshier was being held Wednesday afternoon at the police department, pending his arraignment in front of Judge William Small at Ogdensburg City Court. He is under the supervision of the St. Lawrence County Probation Office.

"The possession of these firearms by this individual posed a substantial risk to the community, as well as law enforcement officers, said police," Ogdensburg detectives said in a news release. "Police believed these firearms may have been discharged within the city, possibly putting people at risk."

Ogdensburg police said the Department of Homeland Security assisted in the investigation.

The inquiry remains ongoing, and further charges are possible, police said.
