POTSDAM – An Ogdensburg man was arrested after leaving the scene of a reported larceny that occurred at Walmart, 7494 U.S. Highway 11 on Tuesday, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.

Officers said Robert H. Johnson Jr., 30, was charged with second degree obstruction of governmental administration, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and a motor vehicle equipped with a police receiver.

Deputies said upon arrival they were advised that the suspect's vehicle has just left the parking lot and turned onto U.S. Highway 11.

The suspects vehicle was located a short distance later and was being operated by Johnson, who has a suspended NYS driver’s license, deputies said.

Upon being questioned about the larceny, Johnson claimed he had come to Walmart alone, which was later found to be untrue based on security camera evidence, officers said.

A second suspect who reportedly had been driven to Walmart by Johnson fled on foot prior to police arriving.

A police radio scanner was located following a consensual search of Johnson’s vehicle, officers said.

Johnson was released on his own recognizance on appearance tickets returnable to Potsdam Village Court at a later date, deputies said.
