OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Public Library has a new flagpole thanks to the financial efforts of the Swe-kat-si Chapter NSDAR.

A dedication ceremony was held on Flag Day, Friday, June 14.

The Swe-kat-si Project began late 2014, after a conversation with library staff, the idea of the flagpole challenge began to form.

The group says they surpassed their $1,200 goal. After expenses, the group says they will donate any extra money to the children’s library.

At a meeting in December with Penny Kerfien, library director, the project was planned. By April they had enough money from the community and library patrons to fund the project.

With the help of the City of Ogdensburg, Matt Denner and his crew, the flagpole was installed.

An American flag was donated by Senator Patty Ritchie, which had previously flown over the State Capital.

Finally a plaque was created to celebrate our donors, donated by Laurel Lee Roethel of River Rat Designs.

The Swe-kat-si Chapter NSDAR has a long history with the City of Ogdensburg dating back to 1899 when the ladies placed the monument on the grounds of Fort de la Presentation.
