OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Council honored its Department of Public Works employees for their recent efforts to keep water flowing to homes.
Mayor William Nelson said the department deserves praise for meeting the city’s needs despite the harsh conditions.
On Monday the council recognized the DPW employees for their efforts in managing and unusually cold winter.
According to the council, DPW employees worked 24 hours a day to plow, snow-blow and remove snow. Due to unusually cold temperatures this winter there was also a significant increase in frozen water pipes and main breaks.
In a recent interview DPW Director Scott Thornhill said his department has thawed more 60 frozen pipes and has also been repairing broken waterlines caused by the frigid temperatures.
“Ogdensburg City Council believes it is very important to recognize the exceptional work for the dedicated DPW staff,” a resolution unanimously passed by the council said. “City Council hereby publically thanks the entire DPW team for being responsive and dedicated to the needs of Ogdensburg residents this winter season.”
