OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Manager John Pinkerton will retire December 31, roughly six-months early than he had agreed to previously.
The announcement came at the meeting Monday, where Mayor William Nelson and several city councilors offered praise.
“You have elevated us to another level,” the mayor said, adding that he has received a substantial reduction in complaints since Pinkerton was hired.
Nelson said Pinkerton’s decision to retire stemmed from wanting to more time with his family.
Pinkerton was hired in October of 2012 on a three-year contract. Pinkerton had planned to retire when that term expired, but agreed to stay on longer at request of the council.
Pinkerton offered appreciation to the council for their confidence and praise, adding that he enjoyed his time as Ogdensburg’s manger.
“Well most of it anyway,” he joked at the meeting.
