OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Council hopes to begin interviews for the next city manager in October.
The council met Wednesday with the Bonadio Group, Pittsford to discuss the process at a special meeting. The consulting firm was hired by the city council to search candidates for a fee not to exceed $17,125.
City Manager John Pinkerton was hired in October of 2012 on a three-year contract and had planned to retire when that term expired, but agreed to stay on longer at request of the council.
At a June meeting Pinkerton said he would retire Dec. 31, roughly six-months early than he had agreed to previously.
The decision to hire the consultants was opposed by councilor William Hosmer, who said city staff could handle the task at a much lower cost.
Mayor William Nelson said he contacted five firms regarding the recruitment of a new city manager and received three quotes, which he forwarded to council.
Nelson said Bonadio Group served the city well in the past and has been the low bidder on two occasions.
