Ogdensburg home damaged in Sunday night fire; six people receiving Red Cross assistance

OGDENSBURG -- A home at 717 Morris Street was moderately damaged following a Sunday evening electrical fire.

“There was moderate damage in the kitchen and family room, minimal smoke and water damage throughout,” Assistant Chief Ken Stull said. “It spread into wall into second story and into the attic space of the attached family room.

“It initially came in as an outlet fire.”

He said there were no injuries to firefighters or people in the home.

Firefighters received an alarm at 8 p.m., were on-scene two minutes and were back in service by 10:17 p.m., Stull said.

“It was pretty cut and dry, fortunately,” he said.

The home is owned by Scott and Carrie Scholette and is insured, firefighters said.

The American Red Cross says they provided financial assistance for necessities such as shelter, food and clothing to two adults and four children living at the address, ages seven through 17.

Twenty-five Ogdensburg firefighters responded, seven initially and later another 18 who came from off-duty after being paged, the assistant chief said.

Ogdensburg Fire and Police investigated and found the fire to have been electrical in nature, according to Stull.

Heuvelton Fire Department was on standby at the Ogdensburg station with an engine and manpower, he added.
