OGDENSBURG -- The city will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. for the Lake Street Bridge Demolition, Replacement, and Utility Improvement project.
The ceremony will be held on the west side of the Lake Street Bridge in the Marina District.
The project will consist of the construction of a new pedestrian bridge across the Oswegatchie River and the demolition of the existing Lake Street Bridge.
A new water main and an upsized sanitary force main will be installed on the new pedestrian bridge to replace the utilities on the existing bridge.
In addition, a new 16-inch water main will be constructed under the Oswegatchie from Spruce Street to Gilbert Street.
All of the work is important to the potential redevelopment of the Former Shade Roller and Diamond International waterfront properties, according to city officials.
Bids for the construction work were solicited and on Aug. 8, the Ogdensburg City Council awarded the contract to Tuscarora Construction Company, Inc., Pulask.
The project is primarily funded by a $2.5 million grant from the state Regional Economic Development Program with additional funding is provided from the Empire State Development Corporation Restore NY.
