OSWEGATCHIE -- City Historian Julie Madlin in continuing work on a project named "Take a Walk Through History," which will be funded by the Northern New York Community Foundation in the amount of $4,500, according to a public update from the city manager.
According the public update, the project entails creating walkable city tours using platforms like Thinglink and Moviemaker to create short films, podcasts and interactive posters.
These would include quick response codes, which would pull up the videos on mobile devices when scanned. Signs are posted that allow visitors to use smartphones to access the materials.
So far, eleven tour stops have been completed including the First Baptist Church, the Post Office, and the John Fine House through a grant from Sweetgrass Foundation, according to the update.
QR Codes are also posted online for those who are not able to do the walking tour.
The plan with the Northern New York Community Foundation Grant is to expand the tour with the focus on the areas surrounding the Library Park National Historic District. Later plans involve focusing on art, culture and life along the Oswegatchie River,” the update says.
Community collaborators on the project include the Ogdensburg Public Library, Friends of the Ogdensburg Public Library, Frederic Remington Art Museum, and North Country Public Radio.
