OGDENSBURG — Ogdensburg Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 900 block of Caroline Street today (Tuesday, Aug. 2) at 11:30 a.m. after reports that the house was filling with smoke.
Engine 3 and Engine 1 with five total personnel responded under the command of Capt. Al Rickett, the department posted on the Ogdensburg Professional Firefighters Local 1799 Facebook page.
Units arrived and nothing was visible at first and Capt. Rickett established command and went to investigate, the post said.
At approximately the same time smoke began issuing from front the front door. Capt Rickett updated dispatch of smoke showing and requested an all call for off duty personnel and Heuvelton with an engine and manpower.
A hydrant was secured and a line was stretched to the front door.
Two firefighters made entry and found the seat of the fire in a bedroom, the department reported.
Heuvelton firefighters arrived on scene with in moments, due to being in the city for a funeral detail. Their members were put to work stretching a back up line and vertical ventilation.
Off duty members began arriving and were assigned the second floor for ventilation.
Within 15 minutes the fire was out and hot spots were being extinguished, the department posted.
Heuvelton was released and the scene was turned over to the investigators.
Assisting on scene was Heuvelton Fire, OVRS, OPD, and National Grid.
The department said the fire was not as bad as it could have been because the home owners closed the bedroom door and the body of fire did not leave the room of origin.
Volunteers from the Central & Northern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to three people after the fire, a press release from the organization said.
The Red Cross provided financial assistance for necessities such as shelter, food and clothing to two adults and a 17-year-old.
No injuries were reported.
