Ogdensburg, Hermon-DeKalb schools to share $1 million in funding for technology upgrades

OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg and Hermon-DeKalb schools will both receive funding for technology upgrades from the state’s $2 billion Smart Schools Bond Act.

Ogdensburg City School District will receive a total of $839,899, of which $35,000 will be used to enhance school connectivity, $335,595 will go to classroom technology upgrades and $469,304 will be used to install high-tech security.

Hermon-DeKalb Central will get $220,137, with $44,829 of that going to school connectivity, $88,804 to classroom technology, and $86,504 towards high-tech security.

The local schools are just two of 96 districts statewide who submitted winning Smart Schools Investment Plans aimed at improving school security and reimagining teaching and learning for the 21st century, said a press release from the governor’s office. The approved plans will leverage $85 million from the SSBA.

The plans approved by the state include projects like $26.3 million for high-tech security projects, $25.6 million for school connectivity projects, $18.5 million for classroom technology purchases, $9.9 million for pre-kindergarten classrooms, and $4.2 million for the removal of transportable classroom units (TCUs), the press release said.

Money from the Smart Schools Bond Act, will be used in the approved districts to purchase computer servers, interactive whiteboards, tablets, desktop and laptop computers, and high-speed broadband and wireless connectivity.
