OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg City School District Board of Education and administration recognized Ogdensburg Free Academy Class of 2018 Valedictorian Justyn McCormick and Salutatorian Coby Ryan at Monday’s meeting.

OFA High School Principal Cynthia Tuttle offered congratulations and listed the accomplishments of each of the honored students.

“It is my pleasure to publicly recognize our class leaders for the graduating Class of 2018 tonight,” Tuttle said.

The two students, along with the class president, will address their graduating classmates and the crowd at OFA’s graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 23.

McCormick, who is the son of Scott and Patricia McCormick, ranks number one in his class with a grade point average of 98.74, a position he has held throughout high school.

McCormick will graduate with an Advanced Regents with Honors diploma and an annotation denoting Mastery in Mathematics and Science.

He has also participated in soccer, basketball and baseball and been recognized as an Academic All-Northern and a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete.

McCormick is also a member of the National Honor Society, Whiz Quiz and Myth Olympics and the recipient of the Alan Krause Citizenship Award. He has also been nominated for the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award sponsored by University of Rochester and Clarkson University’s Leadership Award.

Outside of school, McCormick volunteers as a Biddy Basketball coach and is involved with the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club as a member and employee.

The valedictorian plans to major in chemical engineering and has applied to Clarkson University, University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Class of 2018 Salutatorian Coby Ryan, son of Garth and Molly Ryan, ranks second in his class with a grade point average of 97.67, a position he has held throughout high school.

Ryan will graduate with an Advanced Regents with Honors diploma and an annotation denoting Mastery in Mathematics and Science.

Ryan has also participated in golf, indoor track, soccer and hockey and has been recognized as an Academic All-Northern and NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete.

He is also involved in school and community activities including Whiz Quiz, Key Club, National Honor Society, Myth Olympics, Youth Philanthropy Council and the Elks Lodge.

Ryan is the recipient of the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award from University of Rochester and the Whitman Leadership Scholar Award from Syracuse University. He is also expected to receive a New York State Academic Excellence Scholarship.

The salutatorian plans to major in business and has applied to Syracuse University, Villanova University and Seton Hall University.

Both McCormick and Ryan will sit at the head table at OFA’s Academic Banquet this spring, along with other seniors who have been recognized at the banquet all four years of high school.

Tuttle also offered congratulations to the parents of the recognized students.
