OGDENSBURG -- The Fort La Présentation Association has created an annual bursary of up to $100 to allow one individual to attend the War of 1812 Heritage Talks in Ogdensburg April 26 and 27.

The bursary was established in honor of the late Teresa Mitchell, president and CEO of the Seaway Trail Corporation and Trail Foundation.

"We have instituted the award in Teresa’s name because she understood the important link between history and tourism," said Barbara O’Keefe, President of the Fort La Présentation Association. "Teresa, who dedicated her career to New York State’s tourism industry, strongly supported history-based tourism along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail."

Applicants for the bursary must provide a brief 250 word submission describing the importance of the War of 1812 to promoting tourism. All submissions become the property of the Fort La Présentation Association.

The submission must include the applicant’s name, address and phone number.

Applicants should mail their submissions to the Fort La Présentation Association, box 1749, Ogdensburg, NY 13669 before Monday, April 8.

Submissions may also be emailed to fort1749@yahoo.com.

Secondary school and post-secondary students may apply.

The winner will attend the War of 1812 Heritage Talks’ social gathering Friday, April 26 and the eight seminars Saturday, April 27. The bursary is not redeemable for cash.
