Ogdensburg firefighters respond to 441 calls in third quarter of 2016; volunteers train to respond to airport emergencies

OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg Fire Department responded to 490 calls between July 1 and Sept. 30 a quarterly report shows.

Last year the department responded to 441 calls in the same quarter.

The total includes 11 fire calls, 295 emergency medical service calls, 23 hazardous condition calls, 125 service calls and 36 false alarms.

In the past few months the firefighters toured the Ogdensburg Correctional Facility, held a CPR class at Ogdensburg Free Academy, provided standby service for a triathlon, and offered water day activities at Kennedy and Lincoln schools and the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club.

The department has also been busy with training to provide service at Ogdensburg’s greatly expanded airport.

Firefighters received training for airport security access and aircraft rescue and firefighting.

According to Ogdensburg’s website the fire department responded to a total of 1,909 fie and EMS calls in 2015.

That included 25 fire calls, 101 hazardous conditions, 498 service calls, 88 false alarms, and 5 special incidents.
