Police and fire personnel responded to a small fire that day at the rear of the house at 914 Greene St., which was quickly extinguished.
A description of a vehicle at the scene led police to an investigation resulting in the arrest of Richard L. Schwartfigure Jr., 24, 2237 County Route 184, Heuvelton, on charges of third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, a Class D felony, unlawful disposal of methamphetamine lab material, a E felony, and resisting arrest and reckless endangerment of property, both misdemeanors.
The police investigation led to a traffic stop of a vehicle described as the one at the scene. In the course of their investigation, police learned that a bottle containing materials and components from a methamphetamine lab were discarded at the rear of the Greene Street property and ignited. Police also said they located a bag they say belonged to Schwartfigure which contained materials and components used for the manufacture of methamphetamine.
When Police encountered the suspect at an Ogdensburg address, they say he fled on foot and a pursuit ensued, but he got away.
The suspect surrendered to police on Sept. 29.
Schwartfigure was arraigned in Ogdensburg City Court by Judge Gary Alford and was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bail bond.
The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
