OGDESNBURG -- Ogdensburg Fire Department responded to nearly 2,000 calls in 2016, according to a report released by the city manager.
That includes 35 fire calls, 1,158 emergency medical calls, 82 hazardous condition calls, 598 service calls, 111 false alarms and five special condition calls.
Five of those were mutual aid calls.
According to Ogdensburg’s website, in 2015 the fire department responded to a total of 1,909 fire and EMS calls.
Those included 25 fire calls, 101 hazardous conditions, 498 service calls, 88 false alarms, and five special incidents.
The department completed 6,825 hours of training last year. This included a variety of classes, some focused on the department’s partnership with the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority to accommodate the expanded airport.
In the final quarter of 2016 the department responded to seven fire calls. That’s up from just two fire calls in the same quarter in 2015.
From October through December 2016 the department responded to 253 EMS calls, which is down from 289 in the same quarter in 2015.
The department received a $2,500 grant to cover fire prevention costs in 2016 and has applied for two additional grants totaling $312,000.
