Ogdensburg film critic to mark 100th show

OGDENSBURG -- An Ogdensburg film critic will soon celebrate his 100-show milestone.

Brandon Wright, whose screen moniker is MistrWright, produces the YouTube series "Wright at the Movies," which is sometimes linked on NorthCountryNow.com.

Wright released his first episode of “Wright At The Movies” on Sept. 14, 2014, reviewing “Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For.”

“I have been fascinated with movies my whole life and the idea of a show where I could talk about them was too good to pass up,” Wright said. “Even though I didn’t have all the equipment yet I had to talk about it and get it off my mind.”

Now a little over a year later, he is getting ready to release his 100th episode. For that feature, Wright says he plans to diverge from his normal format and talk about himself, who he is and what he wants to accomplish.

Wright says his show has evolved in its 13 or so months on the web.

“The first video only has audio and features no footage of me. My overall pacing and style has grown as the episodes have gone by,” Wright said. “The fans like the newer, faster, more stylish versions of the show and in order to keep pace with that I am always looking to perfect my craft.”

What began as a passion project for Wright has become a daily operation.

“When I started, I just wanted to speak my mind and talk about my passion and to be honest, I didn’t think anyone would watch,” Wright said. “Nowadays, I’m going to movies and writing reviews specifically for the fans and I’m honored that they care so much.”

Wright’s shows were originally broadcasted on the YouTube channel “MistrWright,” but more recently have broadcasted on the YouTube channel “GMS productions.” He says he is now updating the “MistrWright” channel to include his entire catalog. The 100th episode will broadcast there, as well as all other installments going forward.

“I would love for all of my fans to go to my previous channel and check out all my old videos as well as new content such as gaming videos and video logs that will be starting on that channel soon,” Wright said.

The 100th episode of Wright At The Movies will premiere Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. on his YouTube channel MistrWright.

Wright says he has a laundry list of people to whom he is grateful for helping the show take off.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped me get this far: NorthCountryNow.com for sharing my videos, local actor Elijah Winfrey for the support you have given as a fellow filmmaker as well the friendships you have helped me make in the local scene. I would also like to thank my parents for the never ending support and starting and nurturing my love of movies. And I would also like to thank my fan base for always watching my videos, whether they be good bad or in-between.”

Wright is now selling sponsorships for Wright at the Movies. Packages start at $45 per episode. People or businesses seeking more information can call 869-1216.
