OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Fire Department has been awarded $28,612 Assistance to Firefighters grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The funding will be used to upgrade the station's dispatch radio, portable radios, and personal protective equipment that will soon be outdated, such as turnout gear jackets and pants, according to a release from the City of Ogdensburg. The new equipment will enable the department to comply with standards that ensure firefighters have protection while performing their life-saving duties.
“This funding will assist the City of Ogdensburg to meet the expense of this vital equipment in these extremely tough economic times,” the news release said.
The AFG Program aims to help local fire departments with money for equipment, training, fire education and prevention programs, wellness and fitness programs, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.
