OGDENSBURG -- City council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at city hall to consider an amendment to the city’s preliminary budget.
The preliminary budget accepted Nov. 14 included borrowing $1 million, increasing the tax levy by more than $500,000 and calls for cutting services.
Under the proposal the city tax rate would rise 10.5 percent from $17.36 to $19.20 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. Purdy said this will be about $183 more in taxes per year for the average homeowner.
Under that plan, if the city forgoes borrowing $1 million the tax rate would rise 31.8 percent to $22.89 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
The amended budget would decrease property taxes by an additional $526,882 with a new proposed levy of $5,674,201.
Under the proposed amendment the city’s tax rate would be $20.94 without borrowing $1 million.
The amendment proposed for Monday’s meeting would decrease general fund appropriations by $52,877 and increase revenues from non-property taxes by $474,005. The resolution does not say how this would be accomplished.
