Ogdensburg ends nine years of tradition as GreenMarket closes

OGDENSBURG – After nine years of operations Ogdensburg’s GreenMarket will close.

“For the past nine years the market has been a fixture in Library Park on Saturdays and for the past three years at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center on Thursdays,” organizer Sandra Porter said. “As the vendor base slowly dwindled, so did the customer base. Several years ago we saw half our vendors leave.”

Porter said the market vendors are all running little businesses and must go where they can make the most money.

“Without that customer base a market cannot survive,” she said.

This spring the Saturday market moved to the Lowes parking lot for more exposure, but the move never really took off, Porter said.

“The market would like to thank everyone who supported it over the years and let them know they can find most of them at the Canton market on Tuesdays and Fridays.”
